Transactional comments

When you’ve won the league four years in a row, you have to expect some slings and arrows from, shall we say, observers when you make moves.

The four-time (four-time, four-time, four-time) defending champion Kings made a couple free-agent pickups this week. In one, they dropped Rhiner Cruz to pick up Ramon Ramirez (NYM, RP) for $7. A day later, they sent Craig Stammen packing in favor of Arizona pitcher Patrick Corbin.

Arriving today via electronic post was a critique of those moves from a source who wished to remain anonymous.

“Any time you can add the guy 4th in line for saves (Ramirez), with an ERA over 5, and a lone save picked up in the 11th inning of a game where all the other options have already pitched you have to do it!

“As for Corbin, there sure is a lot of love for a guy who is most likely headed back down by June once the REAL prospects get the call.”

The commenter, of course, refers to a Diamondbacks’ system that is chock full of outstanding young pitchers eager to get up and make their marks.

As always, you can make your comments about any league aspect on or e-mail me through the CDRL message board.
